New Lun Ting Cafe: Reviews & Ratings
Great food, lots of options, tranquil atmosphere, reasonable prices. We got a small soup, a dumpling and delicious green tea (all complimentary/included) while we waited for our main dishes.
I really like this place — it has a unique atmosphere. The food is tasty; don’t expect it to be exactly like in China, as it’s a bit Americanized, but still much better than many other places. Prices are reasonable for San Francisco, and portions are generous. I’ve been here a few times and tried several dishes, including sirloin steak, roast pork, and beef tongue — all were really good. I wanted to try the ribeye steak, but every time I asked for it at dinner, the lady said it was sold out. If you want it, you’ll need to come for lunch rather than dinner. A nice touch is that each meal comes with small extras: a side of soup, a single Chinese-style dumpling, and complimentary tea. The lady who works there is very official and a bit grumpy — she could smile more — but overall, it’s a great place with a unique vibe, big portions, and fair prices.
We always make a stop here on our way home after an extended time away and order our usuals. There’s something really comforting about the familiar flavors, and it always hits the spot when we start missing home. Roast Pork with Gravy – We always ask for extra gravy over the rice. This dish is super consistent. Flavorful every time and exactly what we expect. Lamb Stew with Gravy – Also great with gravy over the rice. It can be a little hit or miss depending on the cut of meat. Usually it’s hearty with generous portions, though occasionally there’s more bone than meat. Still, the flavor makes up for it, and we keep coming back for it. Service – It’s efficient and no-frills. You won’t get chit-chat or extra pleasantries, but the food comes out fast, packed well for takeout, and the staff knows what they’re doing. It’s straightforward and reliable. Overall: 5/5 – Solid food, dependable experience, and always a welcome stop for our family.
TLDR: inexpensive and delicious food for locals, come get some delicious pork with orange sauce or curry sauce This is a pretty local place with a cool history, would definitely recommend to come and try some delicious plates of food, a plate of pork chop with a HK milk tea costs around $20 after tax and tip. The milk tea is smooth, the pork is tender and just the right amount of fattiness.
Kinda HK style like chinese food with western influence but the ox tail is so tender and the sesame sauce on the pork chops is so good I also like the bitter melon soup even tho im not a huge fan of bitter melon and a lot of my much older friends go there too so u know its the spot I will say the sauce is kinda heavy so if u have sensitive stomach to like Indian food for example like thick sauces dont go there but ive gone 3 or 4 times and every dish is great even tho its served with spaghetti and stuff feels a little weird but its good and the corn has like this light seasoning on it taste great too and the meat is always mad tender
Service was fast, the cut of the ribeye is appropriate for the price and despite being budget—they cooked it so well. Your meal comes with a drink or tea, a fried dumpling, and a small soup. Everything was delicious. The establishment is not frilly, but it was clean and organized. The gravy was delicious, but next time I’m getting it on the prime rib or rib eye!
Roast pork with gravy was life changing. Comes with tea, soup and a dumpling. I'll be back!
So awesome. Great hearty food with an awesome lady serving us at affordable prices! Food comes with hot tea, soup, and also pot stickers (which we rejected cos we don't take meat). The unagi was good and a really thick big piece. Better than what you could get at Japanese restaurants. For the pepper fish rice, I also added an egg. After which, the lady offered us ice cream on the house! And she further served the orange to my friend who didn't want the ice cream.
